We wanted to provide a glimpse of what we do when we check for quality on any of the gensets we sell, so when we handled service and testing on this 1500 kW Katolight D1500FRZ4 diesel genset, we decided to record part of the process.
Aside from the routine service and preventative maintenance that is usually conducted on these generator sets to keep them running optimally, we also check to make sure that the generators are running properly at their rated output via a load bank test.
This load bank test in particular was specially commissioned by our customer, because the unit was tested extensively for 4 hours at a staggered rate. We brought the generator up to full load in stages. Starting at 25% power, 50% power, 75% power, then cranked it up to 100% power to ensure that the generator was running smoothly. In addition to this load bank test, we also had our team run a thermoscan of the unit to ensure the unit was running well both inside and out and also pulled an oil sample.
While there are many moving parts involved in the inspection, testing, and maintenance process, a load bank test is often a good indicator whether a genset is performing the way it should or not.
