Powering the Portal with AIRMAN Generators

Woodstock Power Company recently had the honor of handling a project in our own hometown of Philadelphia, PA to relocate The Portal in Philadelphia’s Love Park, where it was initially installed to the City Hall Courtyard. The Portal, which is part of a series of multiple live-streaming structures was previously in New York, before being moved to Philadelphia. These structures have been installed in public spaces globally in order to connect and communicate with others across the world via a 24/7 livestream.

Woodstock Power Company was brought in to help tackle the main challenge during the relocation of The Portal, which was to help provide uninterrupted power to ensure that The Portal’s real-time video and audio streaming features maintained its global connection. Failure to do so would cause the livestream to disconnect and effectively disrupt the goal of maintaining a 24/7 international livestreaming connection.

Meeting Challenges Big and Small

While relocating The Portal itself was an undertaking on its own, choosing the right equipment that we would rely on to achieve the goal of uninterrupted power to The Portal required careful consideration. After evaluating portable generator solutions that would meet the needs for our project, we deployed a 100 kW AIRMAN SDG125S portable diesel generator to handle the job. Right out of the gate, the AIRMAN SDG125 is an extremely versatile portable rental ready generator that we have relied on time and time again for various applications and provides flexibility, without sacrificing on performance. Additional features of the AIRMAN SDG125S also enabled us to tackle additional challenges that came with the project. The EPA Tier 4 Final rating helped keep us within EPA compliance and regulations regarding emissions in public spaces with dense populations and the low-noise operation mitigated any noise pollution produced while the generator was running. This not only resulted in audible functions of The Portal to continue operating as intended, but also kept it relatively quiet in crowded areas. As the estimated timeline for project completion varied due to numerous factors, the 24 hour runtime on a single tank of diesel fuel also meant that the AIRMAN SDG125 was the perfect fit for our project needs.

Powering to Success

Teaming up with other involved parties to get this project (literally) off the ground, Woodstock Power Company was able to successfully keep The Portal running and fully functional during and after relocation of the installation.

We were also able to keep noise pollution to a minimum to help preserve The Portal’s audio features and adhere to local noise restrictions within our municipality.

Most importantly, we were able to quickly deploy our generator on-site, get connected, setup, and transported alongside The Portal to ensure 100% uptime.
